How soon can I have my surgery?

Most patients have their initial consultation within a week of contacting us. Surgery is typically scheduled 1-3 weeks following the consultation, bypassing the typical NHS wait times of several months or years.

What is the difference between NHS lenses and your premium lenses?

The NHS almost exclusively uses standard monofocal lenses, which fix your vision for one distance (usually far). This means you will still need glasses for reading and intermediate tasks, and potentially distance as well. At Vision Scotland, we offer a wide range of Trifocal, Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) and Toric lenses, which can restore distance, intermediate, and near vision simultaneously, often eliminating the need for glasses entirely.

Is cataract surgery painful?

No, the procedure is virtually painless. We use anaesthetic eye drops to numb the surface of your eye completely. You will be awake but relaxed during the 15-20 minute procedure, and you won’t see the surgical instruments.

Can I use medical insurance to cover the cost?

Yes, Vision Scotland is recognised by all major health insurance providers (including Bupa, AXA, Aviva, and Vitality). If you are self-paying, we also offer 0% finance options to spread the cost.

Does Cataract Surgery last a lifetime?

Yes, Vision Scotland replace your natural lens with a synthetic one, which are permanent and cannot develop a cataract once it’s implanted.
